Higher Education for the Heavy Haul Driver:

Join the only program of its kind, offering technical training for drivers and support personnel in oversize/overweight transport, also referred to as “heavy haul”. Our program prepares you for a rewarding career moving monstrous loads such as spacecraft, AI data center equipment, and wind turbine components. We also offer training for the other members of the heavy haul team, including steermen, route surveyors, and Pilot/Escort Vehicle Operators.

Who Can Attend the Heavy Haul Program?

CDL drivers with a double-triple endorsement and at least two years of experience are invited to enroll. Other members of the transport team such as P/EVOs, steermen, and route surveyors can also receive specialized training and certifications related to their roles.

Q:What is the Heavy Haul Program?
A:Our program trains experienced CDL drivers to safely and legally transport oversize/overweight loads within FMCSA Long Combination Vehicle (LCV) requirements (49 CFR Part 380). It also offers training for steermen, route surveyors, and Pilot/Escort Vehicle Operators (P/EVO).
 
Q:Who can enroll in the heavy haul driver program?
A:A qualified CDL driver with a double-triple endorsement and at least 2 years of experience. Open enrollment is available for drivers from various carriers, or we can tailor training for a single carrier upon request.
Q:What does the training include?
  • Classroom instruction on FMCSA LCV regulations and safety protocols.
  • Written test to ensure understanding of oversize/overweight requirements.
  • Practice driving with hands-on training.
  • Road test to demonstrate competency in handling LCVs and specialized loads.
 
Q:Where is the training held?
A:Classes are primarily in Hillsboro, Texas, with additional locations available as needed to meet carrier and student demands.
 
Q:Can entire transport teams train together?
A:Yes! When feasible, we see great value in training drivers, steermen, route surveyors, and P/EVO teams together to ensure seamless coordination. Additional certifications like P/EVO state certification and Wind Industry Transportation Professional Advanced Certification (WITPAC) can be included. 
 
Q:What equipment is used for training?
A:We provide training equipment, or you can bring your own rig for a more customized experience.
